In a tense matchup the
number ranked Ipswich Cardinals narrowly defeated the Redditch Arrows 16-6 in the 2nd division semi-finals. Going into the 4th qtr losing 6-0 the cardinals stepped up a gear and scored 16 unanswered points against a tiring Arrows team to clinch their place in next months Championship game.
The game started with both teams making tentative starts and with defenses on top. The Arrows however slowly took control and opened the
scoring on a Pete Morgan 35yard Touchdown reception. The PAT however was called back on a penalty with the re-kick being fumbled leaving the visitors with a 6-0 lead.
The second half however saw the Cardinals start to move the ball with more frequency. Despite this the Arrows
defense held firm and forced a Cardinals fumble on the Arrows 20yard line. The Arrows offense then put together a good drive which saw them with 4th and 5 on the Cardinals 25yard line. On going for the first down, the Arrows came up inches short and saw the ball turnover to Ipswich.
Following this Ipswich gradually took control and a 25yard touchdown run coupled with the extra point gave them a 7-6 lead with 9 minutes
remaining. The Arrows now were struggling to move the ball and despite valiant efforts turned the ball over to Ipswich. The host team capitalised on this and again scored on a 25 yard
Touchdown pass to open up a 14-6 lead. The Arrows were given one final shot of saving the game when an Ipswich fumble in the last 25 seconds gave the Arrows the ball on their own 10yard game.
The Arrows desperate to come up with a match saving score, were however caught in the
end-zone for a safety and a final 16-6 score.
