Redditch Arrows gained their first win of the season with a comfortable 27-6 win over old rivals Cheshire Romans.
The Arrows coming off 2 straight defeats against top of the table Gateshead Senators opened brightly and took an early first quarter lead. Good inside running from Hohn and Rhodes allowed the
home team to move down the field culminating in a 33yard pass from QB Dave Stanton to WR Rob Mann. Karl Watkins successful PAT gave the Arrows the crucial 7-0 lead.
The second quarter however saw the Romans come more into the game, holding up the Arrows offense as well as
beginning to move the ball themselves. Despite this, no further scoring occurred in the first half.
The second half opened in explosive fashion with Arrow's Anthony Perkins returning the Chester kick-off 82 yards
for an another Arrows score and a 14-0 lead. This lead was further consolidated when with Chester pinned deep in their own half, Arrow's Danny Lloyd pulled in a 18yard interception and
improve the score to 20-0.
Chester came back into the game when their best drive of the day ended with a 15 yard run from Scott Irwin, reducing the score to 20-6.
However the Arrows were not to be denied and a final late 5 yard run from Dave Mills gave the Arrows the result 27-6.
This was the Arrows best performance of the season and saw them improve to a 1-2 record and move into 4th place in the conference. The win was gained on the back of an overall solid team performance rather than outstanding contributions from individual squad members.
On offense, Toby Rhodes had 52 yards on 6 carries, Dave Mills 58 on 9, Dave Stanton had 6 completions from 16 passing attempts for 70 yards.
On defense, Chris Cunnane was the standout with 6 unassisted and 5 assisted tackles, Martin Hill had 3 and 1 with a sack, Richard
Wilby had 3 & 1 John Richards had 2 & 4. Both Karl Watkins and Danny Lloyd also recorded interceptions.
