In a pre-season friendly the Redditch Arrows ran out comfortable 32-0 winners over old adversaries Lancashire Wolverines. The
Arrows playing for the first time at their new home venue of Kings Norton Rugby Club overcame the atrocious playing condition to dominate on both offense and defense and to control the game from the
start to the end.
The game started in explosive fashion when the Wolverines fumbled on their 3rd play which left the ball on their own 35yard line. Taking advantage of this good field position, on their opening play of the game, Arrows's Dave Mills ran for 35yards for the opening score and a 6-0 lead to the home team.
Both teams were finding moving the ball difficult due to the heavy mud on the pitch and most of the gains were coming on big plays rather than short
yardage gains. The Arrows offense at this point were moving the ball with more ease than the Wolverines, whilst the Arrows defense were consistently stopping the Lancashire team for no gain.
The Arrows capitalised on the advantage later on in the first quarter when Dave Mills again broke free and sprinted down the sideline for a 77 yard
run. A successful 2 point conversion from Andrew Otiko saw the Arrows extend their lead to 14-0.
The Arrows completed the first half scoring when Lancashire who were now trying a passing game, were forced to start deep in their own half on the 2
yard line. Pressure form the Arrows defence forced their QB to throw short and the Arrows Karl Watkins intercept on the 20 yard line and return the ball into the endzone for a half-time 20-0
lead.
The third quarter saw the Arrows continue their dominance and further scores form Anthony Perkins from 45 yards and from Andrew Otiko from 2yards
completed the scoring.
