The Redditch Arrows played their third consecutive away game last Sunday against Cardiff based South Wales Warriors. Coming off 2
straight defeats the Arrows produced their best performance of the season in obtaining their first win 27-12.
The Warriors, winning the toss, elected to receive and soon made the Arrows suffer. A breakaway 50 yard run put the home team on the Arrows
15 yard line and 2 plays later went in from 11 yards to take an early 6-0 lead. The Arrows immediately responded when following a good kick off return its offense drove up the field to level
the scores on Anthony Perkins 2 yard run.
Both teams struggled to move the ball on the next series of possessions, however the Arrows presented the Warriors with the chance to
re-take the lead when a fumble on a punt left the ball on the Arrows 20 yard line. The Warriors capitalised on this by completing an 18 yard pass to open up a 12-6 advantage. The remainder of
the half saw both teams swop possessions but without ever really threatening each other.
The second half saw a revitalised Arrows team take control of the game. A 70 yard drive based on the rushing talents of Perkins and Mills
saw Perkins go in from 9 yards to tie up the game at 12-12. The Warriors next possession saw the turning point in the game when Arrows defensive lynchpin Will Slimming intercepted a Warriors
pass and return the ball to their 3 yard line. The Arrows were now hitting a purple patch and 2 plays later Toby Rhodes went in from 2 yards. This coupled with a successful 2 point
conversion saw the Arrows take the lead for first time at 20-12.
In the fourth quarter both teams defense's continuously stopped each others offense. This deadlock was finally broken
when the Arrows sealed the win when Perkins went in for his third touchdown of the game and to give the Arrows a commanding 27-12 lead. A spirited Warriors team however tried to pull
the game closer and put together a good drive mainly via a passing attack in the last 2 minutes. This was stopped when Arrows LB Andy McAnneny sacked the Warriors QB causing him to fumble the
ball and in effect end the game.
