The Redditch Arrows playing their fourth consecutive match fell to a narrow 28-15 defeat in their first home game of the season at Kings
Norton Rugby Club.
The Arrows going into the game fresh from their victory the previous week at South Wales had the upper hand in the early stages of the
game, and which saw them take an early 7-0 lead. A 20 yard interception from Arrows DB Karl Watkins set them up on the Sundevils 20 yard line. A 17 yard Dave Mills run followed by a
Mills 3 yard rush saw the Arrows in the end-zone. The Arrows defense stopped Southern on their next drive, but as the Arrows were moving the ball up field again and threatening to extend the
lead , the Southern defense forced an Arrows fumbled which they not only recovered but also returned 52 yards for a touchdown. A successful 2 point conversion game them lead at 8-7.
The Arrows again presented Southern with the opportunity to score on their next possession. Another fumble gave Southern the ball on the
Arrows 20 yard line. This they capitalise on with a 12 yard pass completion to up a commanding 16-7 lead at the half.
The third quarter saw Southern take control and a good drive based on a strong rushing attack saw them hit paydirt again on a 3yard rush
and a 22-7 lead. The Arrows however showed their resilience in responding early in the fourth quarter when they reduced the deficit on Perkins 4 yard rush to 15-22. Southern
responded by driving down the field only for the Arrows defense to force a fumble on its own 3 yard line just as it looked that the visitors would put the game away. The Arrows joy at this
however was short lived as on its first play the Arrows returned the favour by fumbling the ball giving Southern 1st and goal at the 3 yard line. This time they mad no mistake and finished the scoring on a 3 yard run and a final 28-15 score.
