The Redditch Arrows overcame a spirited Coventry Jaguars side 26-7 on Sunday to remain top of the Division 2 South
Western Conference.
The Arrows going into the game with a 1 win and 1 Tie record soon took control and a fine drive culminated in Arrows
QB Dave Stanton hooking up with Stuart McNeil on a 16 yard reception for an early 7-0 lead. The Jaguars however started to move the ball themselves, but fortunately for the Arrows its defense
always seemed to step up a gear whenever Coventry looked as if they were in a position to score.
The Arrows extended their lead in the 2nd Qtr when Dave Mills went in from 5 yards to open up a commanding 13-0 lead.
Just as it looked as the Arrows would go into the break with this lead, disaster struck. Arrows QB Stanton was
forced top scramble in an attempt to get the pass off only managed to drop into the hands of a Coventry Defender who returned it 50 yards for the score and a 13-7 half time score.
The Arrows regrouped after the break and took the game by the scruff of the neck. Dave Mills went in for his second
score of the game on a jinking 18 yard run followed by Anthony Perkins sweeping around the left side of the line for a 32 yard rushing score and a 26-6 lead.
The fourth quarter saw both teams slowing down as the heat began to tell. The Arrows did however put together a
long drive which ended with a 37 yard Field Goal attempt which just went wide in the last 2 minutes.
