The Redditch Arrows completed their regular season fixtures with a comfortable 20-0 victory over a depleted Nene
Valley Hybrids side on Sunday to leave them undeaften for the entire season for only the third time in their 19 year history.
In a game which lacked any real emotion, the Arrows played with their minds firmly on next weeks playoff match and
with the Hybrids having nothing to play for having been eliminated out of play off contention the previous week.
Despite this the Arrows started promisingly. On the back of strong running from Perkins and Harris they drove the
field and finished with Dave Mills going in from 3 yards. The touchdown however was called back for an illegal shift before the snap. The Arrows however were not to be denied and on the next
play Arrows QB Dave Stanton connected up with Tight End Russell Morey for an 8 yard reception and a 6-0 lead.
The remainder of the first half saw both teams struggle to move the ball with any consistency. The end did however
end on a high note for the home team when following a complicated reverse flea flicker play Stanton launched a long 'Hail Mary' into the end zone which was caught by Anthony Perkins for the
Arrows second score of the day. This coupled with a successful PAT from Jon Ridell gave the Arrows a 13-0 half time lead.
The second half saw both teams pretty much in the same mood. The Arrows extended their lead in the third quarter
when Perkins again went in from 2 yards to open up a 20-0 lead.
The fourth quarter was seriously disrupted by a serious of penalties from both teams and long refereeing
conferences. Things finally came to a head when Arrows Dave Mills was ejected for retaliation after he had been faced caged twice on the same play. After this the game petered out to its
natural conclusion.
In a game in which neither team shined, credit must go the Arrows defense who managed to put the Hybrids QB under a
lot of pressure and which saw Arrows Dan Jacobs make 3 QB sacks.
