The Arrows scored 21 points in the fourth quarter to win the top of the table clash at South Wales Warriors on
Sunday. The Arrows behind 14-12 with 6.17 left in the game produced a devastating show of offensive football to stun the home team Warriors and to the Arrows clear at the top of the table.
The game started with both teams struggling to move the move ball going 3 and out on their first few possessions.
Eventually mid way through the second quarter the Warriors put together the first serious drive of the game to open the scoring on a 35 yard touchdown pass for a 6-0 lead. The Arrows
began to respond on offense but come not put together a consistent enough period of possession to tie the game up leaving the home team 6-0 to the good at the half.
The second half saw the Arrows begin to dominate the game forcing the Warriors defense to pull out all of the stops.
The Arrows offense however were not to be denied and Anthony Perkins went in on a 1 yard run to tie up the game. On South Wales next possession Andy Mortimer intercepted a Warriors pas to
again put the Arrows offense into good field position. They again found the end zone only have the play called back for a holding penalty. AS the third quarter ran down the Arrows
finally got the lead they needed when Toby Rhodes went in from 6 yards to open up a 12-6 lead.
The fourth quarter again saw the Arrows pushing forward to get a further score. With 6.35 left on the clock the
Arrows went for broke on a fourth and goal on the Warriors 3 yard line. The Warriors defense stood strong and took over possession. On the next play they sensationally took the lead when
there running back broke free and went 87 yard untouched to tie the game up at 12-12. South Wales went for the 2 point conversion and which gave them the lead for the second time in the game
at 14-12.
The Arrows offense then opened up their most effective spell of offensive football of the season, Anthony Perkins
went in on an excellent 60 yard run to put the visitors up 18-14. South Wales responded but a Will Slimming fumble recovery set the Arrows up on the Warriors 13 yard line. Perkins scored his
third of the day on a 6 yard run for a commanding 24 -14 lead which coupled with a successful 2 point PAT which saw Arrows QB Dave Stanton hook up with veteran Ron Gifford to extend the lead
to 26-14.
The Warriors came out desperate to get back in the game and a long pass attempt was intercepted
by Arrows Will Slimming. Arrows QB made the most of this opportunity and produced one of the plays of the day on a 43 yard pass reception to Steve Bell for a final 33-14 scoreline.
