The Arrows finished the season on a high note with 50-12 victory at Andover Thrashers. The Arrows going into the
game against the bottom of the table Thrashers had expected to win but were made to fight for the victory after the home team took a an early and surprising 12-0 lead.
The game started disastrously for the Arrows when a wayward pass was intercepted by the Andover defense and returned
89 yards for a 6-0 lead. Things went worse when on the Thrashers first offensive possession they went in on 33 yd sweep to extend the lead to 12-0.
The Arrows however immediately responded. On the ensuing kickoff Arrows Phil Dayus returned the kickoff 75 yards
down the sideline and into the end zone for the visitors first score.
The game then saw both teams fumbling the ball, the final fumble being recovered by Noel Fischer to leave the Arrows
offense on the Thrashers 20 yard line. Arrows QB Richard Wilde then completed the comeback went he scored on an 8 yd roll out. The Arrows then went in for the 2 point PAT and took
the lead for the first time at 14-12.
The Arrows had now put the early mistakes behind them and were in full flow. The defense led by captain Will Powell
effectively stopped anything that Andover had to throw at them and a Dave Mills 2 yard run and a Phil Dayus 2 point PAT extended the lead to 22-12. Another Mills 10 yard run saw the
Arrows score just before the half for a half time score of 28-12. It has been a long time since the Arrows have scored 4 touchdowns in a quarter!
The second half saw Andover come out in spirited mood. Despite failing to win in this their first season they have
always shown their fighting spirit and Sunday was no exception. However the Arrows defense were causing them all kinds of problems with a lot of tackles occurring in the Thrashers backfield.
They were forced to punt, but a bad snap sailed above the head of the Andover punter for an Arrows 2 point safety.
With the Arrows getting the ball back from the kickoff Alan Harris went in from 2 yards and Dave Mills converting
the 2 point PAT.
In the fourth quarter Mills scored his third touchdown on the day on his way to 150 yards rushing and over 1000 for
the season – a fine achievement in a difficult season. To finish the scoring off Martin Reed went in from 1yard for his first ever score for the club and to end the game up at 50-12.
