In baking hot weather, the Redditch Arrows made the long journey south to take on Plymouth Admirals and came away
with a hard fought 6-0 win.
With the weather playing a major factor in the game, the Arrows made the early running. Two quick passes from Matt
Gavin to Richard Wilde saw the visitors move down the field but the Admirals defense held firm and forced the Arrows to punt.
On the Admirals first possession a Plymouth fumble was recovered by Will Powell to leave the Arrows offense in great
field position. The Arrows continued with the aerial assault and capitilised on Plymouths costly fumble when Matt Gavin connected with Richard Wilde from 23 yards for the early 6-0 lead.
The second quarter saw Plymouth came back into the game and saw them put together a couple of drives. Unfortunately
for the Admirals the Arrows defense was in fine form, and both drives fizzled out when they looked as it they would threaten the end zone.
The second half become a defensive battle with neither team managing much on offense. A lack of discipline from the
Arrows saw a recovered punt on the Admirals 15 yard line called back for offside and then a series of unsportsmanlike penalties marched the Admirals up the field. Again the Arrows defense got
a grip and managed to get the home team to turn the ball over on downs.
Going into the last 5 minutes of the game, it looked as if a score form either side would seal the win. Plymouth got
their chance with around 3 minutes left with a first and ten from the Arrows 35 yard line. In keeping with the rest of the game the Arrows defense were to be too strong for the Admirals
offense and kept the score to the solitary early touchdown.
