The Redditch Arrows came up against an undermanned but determined Doncaster Mustangs team on Sunday and finally ran
out 14-6 winners. Despite the win the Mustangs will feel the happier of the 2 teams with their performance.
The Arrows started well and soon had a 7-0 lead after QB Richard Wilde connected with Andy Kite for a 69 yard
reception pass. This looked as if it would open the floodgates against the badly weakened Doncaster Team but to their credit Doncaster dug in and gave as good as they got in a frustrating
first half for the home team. With the Arrows offense struggling the Mustangs started to gain in confidence and with the first half coming to an end shocked the Arrows when they pulled the
score back to 7-6 on a 4 yard pass play to close out the half and a score-line which reflected the overall balance in the game.
Half time saw the Arrows make adjustments and revert to their normal running game. They were now beginning to gain
some momentum with Arrows veteran running back Dave Mills consistently picking up yardage and it was no surprise when Mills increased the Arrows lead to 14-6 when he went in from 3 yards.
Doncaster were not finished however and as the game wore on they started to put together some drives themselves and
started to put pressure on the Arrows defense. With no time outs remaining they made one last attempt to get back into the game but the Arrows defensive unit held firm and saw the clock run
out.
