The Arrows snatch a last minute touchdown to seal a closely fought 12-6 win over the improving Yorkshire Rams on
Sunday.
The Arrows defense started in sensational form forcing the Rams offense to fumble 3 times deep in their own
half on their first 3 possessions. On the first of these the Arrows punished their visitors when Arrows QB Richard Wilde connected up with Andy Kite for a 20 yard reception and an early
6-0 lead.
The Rams finally settled down and stopped turning the ball over however still struggled to put together any
real offense against a rampant Arrows Defensive unit. The Arrows offense were also having similar problems and the game slowly turned into a defensive battle. The Arrows got the ball
back with 50 seconds on the clock but the Rams Paul Goodward read an attempted Arrows screen pass and intercepted it for a 13 yard Touchdown interception to level the score at 6-6. At
half time the total offense posted by both teams only came to 86 yards such was the dominance of both defenses.
The second half started as the first half ended with both teams struggling to move the ball. The majority of the
play was acted out in the areas half of the field but Yorkshire failed to capitalise on this.
The longer the game went on the more it looked as if one score would win it for either team.
The fourth quarter finally saw the Arrows put the Rams defense under some pressure mainly on the running of Errol
Wilson, however a serious of errors stopped the Arrows as it looked that they would take control.
With less than 50 second on the clock the Rams were forced for one ore time, this time Errol Wilson managed to get
time to set up a return and rushed 40 yards down the sideline to give the Arrows a first and goal on the Rams 7 yard line. With no timeouts remaining the clock was now a serious issue
for the Arrows. Dave Mills carried for 4 yards and with 6 seconds left on the clock Mark Collett went in from 3 yards for the crucial go-ahead score.
The Rams had one chance left with 1 second on the clock, but the Arrows defense broke up the pass for the important
win.
