The Redditch Arrows produced their performance and
result of the season when they travelled to top of the table Dundee Hurricanes and came away with a sensational 26-14 win.
This result not only gave the Hurricanes their first
defeat of the season but also made the Arrows into serious play-off contenders.
The match kicked off with a dream start for the Arrows
when on their first offensive play Arrows running back Mike Sinyangwe went in from 43 yards on a jinking run through the Dundee defense for a 6-0 lead.
The Arrows defense then stopped the Hurricanes on their
next drive forcing them to go 3 plays and punt. The Arrows drove up the field looking as if they would extend their lead only for the drive to fizzle out on the Hurricanes 10 yard
line. Dundee made the visitors pay for this when they took over the lead at 7-6 following a 15 yard run from Matamadou Niakate.
With the game now on a knife-edge it was the Arrows who
took the initiative. Sinyangwe again broke free and went down the sidelines on a 37 yard score and a 12-7 lead.
Dundee showed however why they were top of the table
when shortly before the half Niakate went in again from 2 yards out to give the home team a 14-12 half time lead.
Both teams came out even more determined in the second half. It was however the Arrows defense that proved to
be the deciding factor. On the Hurricanes first possession of the second half Arrows defensive End Ian Loombs forced and recovered a fumble to set up Redditch in great field
position, Going to the ground Arrows RB Dave Mills drove the team up the field before finishing events off when he went in from 2 yards out and putting the Arrows back in front at
19-14.
They say lightening doesn't strike twice in the same
place –it does. Ian Loombs again recovered another Hurricanes fumble. On 1st and 10 Arrows QB Richard Wilde dealt a what would prove be winning blow when he connected up with Kieron McLoed in the end-zone from 25 yards out and a commanding 26-14 score line.
The remainder of the game saw the Hurricanes offense
going to the air to try and get back in the game. The Arrows defense however were not to be breached and this coupled with the Arrows offense using a running a game to eat up the
clock saw the visitors grab the all so important win.
