The Redditch Arrows kept on course for the playoffs with a
comfortable 33-7 win over the South Yorkshire Mustangs. The win now gives the Arrows the chance to not only reach the playoffs but also take the Conference title if they can beat West Coast
Trojans next Sunday.
The Arrows went into Sunday's game knowing that nothing but a win
would suffice. However it was their visitors from Yorkshire who started the better. The Mustangs put together a string a passes culminating in a 8 yard pass to open up an early but not
undeserved 7-0 lead.
This setup seemed to wake up the Arrows and despite their defense
stepped up and produced two key plays which turned the game in the second quarter. Firstly a Will Powell interception gave the Arrows the ball deep in the Mustangs half. A sensational
diving catch in the end-zone from Neil Solomon off a Richard Wilde pass levelled the score. Arrows defensive back Jon Ward then made the second interception of the day on the Mustangs next
possession. This time Mike Sinyangwe went on a long sweep only to fumble the ball on the South Yorks 2 yard line, the ball bobbled into the end-zone where Arrows lineman Carl Lewis fell
on it to give the Arrows a 14-7 lead. This was Carl's first ever touchdown.
The second half saw the Arrows well in control, a tiring Mustangs
team conceded a further touchdown in the third quarter when Sinyangwe went in from 3 yards. He repeated this feta in teh fourth quarter to give the Arrows a commanding 27-7 lead.
In the final phases of the game Jamie Kilby went in as arrows
quarterback on the back of some good running from himself and Mike Sinyangwe set the Arrows up on the Mustangs 15 yard line with seconds left on the clock. The Arrows finished the afternoon
when Kilby connected with Kieran Mcloed deep in the corner of the end-zone for a touchdown and a final 33-7 result.
