The Redditch Arrows made sure that last years shock 3-0
defeat to the Staffordshire Surge was not repeated when they put an undermanned Surge squad to the sword in a 60-0 victory.
The Arrows went into the game knowing that a win was
essential if they were to keep alive their play off hopes and they soon showed that they meant business.
After the Arrows first drive came to a halt due to
penalties, Arrows line backer Jim Mortimer capitalized on a Surge fumble and returned the ball 20 yards untouched to give Redditch an early 6-0 lead.
On the Arrows next possession , running back Mike
Singangwe making his Arrows debut weaved down the field on a 54 yard run giving the Arrows first and goal on the 5 yard line. Sinyangwe's efforts were rewarded when on the next
play he went in from 5 yards to give the Arrows a 13-0 lead.
With the Surge offense having difficulty and getting any
offense together against a dominant Arrows defense it was only a matter of time before the Arrows would increase their lead. By half-time the Arrows had opened up a commanding
27-0 lead thanks to a Richard Wilde pass to Kieran Mcloed from 9 yards and a Mark Collett run from 6 yards out.
The second half started with the Arrows still in
determined mood. Veteran Running back Dave Mills went in 15 yards followed by a Toby Rhodes 14 yard rush and a Sinyangwe 8 yard run to extend the lead to 47-0 at the end of
the 3rd quarter.
The Arrows completed the afternoon when in the fourth
quarter Rhodes got his second of the day from 2 yards and Collett scored for the 3 yard line.
The depleted Surge squad was a major factor in the game
however the Arrows produced a clinical display and scored at almost opportunity that they had. On Offense the Arrows produced over 350 yards rushing whilst the Defense held the
Surge to less than 25 yards total offense for the afternoon.
Debutant Mike Sinyangwe was the standout on the offense
with 147 yarsd on 12 carriws whilst on defense Jim Mortiner, James Chattoe, Will Powell and Trevor Ballinger all recovered fumbles.
