Going into the game the Arrows knew that anything less
than a victory could see them eliminated from the play-offs. The past history between the 2 teams led everyone to expect another close tough matchup but the result exceeded
anything that the Arrows could have expected.
The first quarter was scoreless however
the Arrows demonstrated their intent. After a short opening drive, they held the Trojans to 3 plays before forcing them to punt. On their next drive the Arrows put together a 50
yard drive before a fumble ended it. The Trojans managed to put together 2 or 3 offensive plays before the quarter intended. This amount of possession for the Arrows in the
quarter was to set the tone for the remainder of the game.
Whilst the first quarter was scoreless the second was
explosive. James Chattoe started it off when he recovered a Trojans fumble deep in their own half. With the Arrows offensive line making huge holes in the Scottish teams defense,
Mike Sinyangwe carried the ball several times before going in from the 4 yard line for an Arrows 7-0 lead.
The Arrows celebrations however were short lived. On the
ensuing kick off the Trojans returner went 85 yards untouched down the sidelines for a touchdown. The extra point was missed leaving the Arrows with a narrow 7-6 lead.
Sinyanqwe then again extended the lead when following a
powerful run up the middle where he made a large gain with the last 15 yards of it with 2 defenders hanging onto him, he went in from 5 yards for a 14-7 lead.
The Arrows defense were now in top form and were
preventing West Coast from making any headway. This was rewarded when Arrows Jon Ward picked off an interception from the Trojans QB Gary McNey and returned it to the West Cost 9
yard line. Mark Collett then finished it off with a 3 yard run for a 21-6 lead.
With time running out in the half the Arrows defense
forced the Trojans to punt. The ball fell into the hands of Sinyangwe who returned it 52 yards into the end-zone to extend the lead to 28-6 at the half.
The second quarter performance resulting in 28 points
from the Arrows was one of the best in the clubs history.
The second half started in similar vein as the first.
The Arrows knowing that if they kept it tight that they would almost certainly win, were more cautious and started to put together some long drives to use up the game clock.
Finally Dave Mills went in from 25 yards to extend the
lead to 34-6 and on the last play of the game Arrows QB Richard Wilde connected with Neil Solomon from 4 yards to wrap the scoring up at 40-6.
