1988 saw the arrival of Head coach Gerry Hartman who had previously coached and founded the Birmingham
Bulls. Before this coaching responsibilities had been taken by Roger Smithies with assistance from several other people. The season was a great disappointment following the success of the
previous year. Gerry's team management methods seemed at odds with the teams attitude and despite all of the players gaining valuable technique coaching, the team was not settled and this was seen
in its results. The Arrows whilst not being outclassed found it difficult to string together any kind of consistency during the entire season and suffered accordingly. The end of the season saw
Gerry leave the team on an amicable basis and the club play two friendly's both of which resulted in wins. Many of the players who had left during the season returned and it was hoped that 1989 would see
a return to winning ways. The 1988 season did see the Arrows change their home venue to the Valley the home of Redditch United football Club which enabled the Arrows to offer better spectator facilities.
