Following on the disappointment of 1997, 1998 saw yet another turnaround in the Arrows fortunes with the Club winning the Division 2 North West
championship. The season started with a pre-season game against the visiting Oregon Allstars for the second year running. This time the game was a much more closely fought occasion with the Arrows losing
narrowly 22-12. The regular season saw the Arrows start with a 20-0 win at St Helens in a game played in atrocious conditions. This was followed with the clubs first home game at its new home Alcester
Rugby Club. Unfortunately the Arrows failed to live up to the occasion and lost badly 32-13. This however was the turning point in the season and following this the team picked itself up and went on a 5
match winning streak, the highlights being a tight 16-2 match against arch rivals Wolverhampton, 32-12 at Chester and a magnificent 40-12 win at previously unbeaten Lancashire. The win at Lancashire saw
the Arrows take a very early 20-0 lead including a 65 yd Touchdown pass on the first play and a 65yd run two plays later. It is widely believed that the Arrows first quarter performance was the most
devastating that the Club had ever produced. The winning run ended against Wolverhampton when a 10-0 lead was thrown away in the fourth quarter for a 16-10 defeat. Despite this the Arrows
returned to winning ways in the next game against St Helens and wrapped up the divisional championship with a record of 8 wins and 2 defeats.
The play offs saw the Arrows matched against Yorkshire Rams for the second time in the season. This time the Arrows ran out easy 26-7
winners and gained revenge for the defeat earlier in the year. The semi-finals saw the Arrows go to Lancashire and fall behind 14-0 at half-time. A spirited second half performance saw them pull the game
back to 14-12, however with the Arrows completely dominating the game, the clock turned out to be their worst enemy and time ran out preventing the Arrows from completing a remarkable come from
behind victory.
