Following the success of 2004 , the 2005 season turned out to be a major disappointment. The Arrows had hoped to be equally competitive but a string of
injuries and key players leaving the club for pastures new prove to be too big a hurdle. The Arrows also suffered from not having the services and experience of of coaches Ian Hill and Errol Perkins.
Despite this all of the Arrows coaches in 2005, led by Roger Smithies, made every attempt to turn fortune around.
Despite posting a losing season, the Arrows could very easily have still achieved a winning record when 2 games against Sussex and Oxford saw the
Arrows lose twice by 1 point, the second of these as the result of a hotly disputed 2 point attempt which won have given the Arrows the Win. Successes came with doubles over old rivals Plymouth (with the
game in Plymouth down to 1 early touchdown) and over new Team Andover Thrashers.
Both Plymouth and Andover showed that they were developing in the right direction and South Wales, Oxford and Sussex proved to be the handful that they
normally are.
The Arrows defense played well all season and it was down to their play that kept the Arrows in many of the games. The Offense was inconsistent, at
times looking extremely efficient whilst at other times struggling to many inroad into the game. Despite this Dave Mills ran for over 1000 yards on the season and it is believed that he is the oldest
player in British Football History to have achieved this.
