The Redditch Arrows are pleased to announce the appointment of Mark
Williams as their Head Coach for the 2009 season replacing Ian Hill who has retired from coaching for personal reasons.
Coach Hill had been with the Arrows for several seasons and has led
the club from the lower ranks of Division 2 of the BAFL to this seasons appearance in the Division 1 Bowl game. In 5 seasons he has posted 3 conference Championships, a runners position
and 2 semi final appearances along with the Bowl appearance this year.
Arrows Chairman Chris Halford pays tribute to Ian " Ian has without doubt been our most
successful ever head coach. Not only has he led the team to success but more importantly has overseen the development of many of our younger players. Without his contribution the club and
they as individuals would be were we are today. Ian's presence on the sidelines will be greatly missed however he has left a strong legacy on which can build.
As is Ian's way he informed the club of his decision before the start of the current
season which has allowed us to assess who we wanted to replace him with. Ian is not however leaving the club completely and we are currently discussing with him regarding a number of roles
within the organisation. Both Ian and the Arrows are very keen to make sure that we use his many talents for many years to come.
Mark Williams is an outstanding coach and we delighted that he has decided to accept
the offer to be Head Coach next year. Mark has slowly this year been increasing his profile within the club following him joining us last year from the Birmingham Bulls. We have complete
confidence that Mark will build on what Ian has left and take us even more forward in the future. Mark's enthusiasm for the Sport and the Arrows is infectious and there is no doubt that he
has played a major part in the success that the club has had in 2008."
Coach Williams is already putting in plans for next year. The Arrows already boast
one of the countries strongest coaching team and Williams is already looking to boost this 11 man team even further next year. The philosophy of the club is that coaching is the key
to everything that happens on the pitch. The Arrows are also in talks with several players regarding a move across to the Kings Norton based team.
Preparations for the 2009 season start on November 9th when the Arrows host a pre-season Recruitment Camp. This is an opportunity for anyone interested in taking up the sport or joining the Arrows to come along and meet the coaches and go through some basic drills etc. to give them a flavour of the game. The camp starts at 12:00pm . Anyone interested can either just turn up on the day or contact Coach Williams on mark@redditcharrows.com
